A Month In Music

Well it’s been about a month since I last posted on iamaplaylist, for various reasons (Exams). Looking back on these past 36 days it’s evident that music never stops and there’s a lot to share, so i’ll get straight into it.

Alt-J (∆), (Indie, Electronic, Rock)

The return of Alt-J saw them sample Miley and take an electronic turn for their first single off their sophomore album, nevertheless it still hit the spot.

The Kite String Tangle, (Electronic, Pop, Indie)

The first piece of new material since releasing the mega hit “Given The Chance”. The “Vessel” EP will be about on the 27th of July.

Porter Robinson, (Electronic)

“Lionhearted” features Swedish-Pop act Urban Cone and serves as the third song released from Porter Robinson’s debut album “Worlds”. The video isn’t too bad either.

Caribou, (Electronic, House)

“Can’t Do Without You” is a very repetitive song but don’t let that undercut how good it really is and fair warning it’ll be stuck in your head for days.

Lana Del Rey, (Pop)

Lana Del Rey released her 2nd album a couple weeks ago and my favourite cuts apart from “West Coast” are the above two tracks of which both are bonus tracks.

ZHU, (Electronic, Pop)

First of all the ODESZA remix of “Faded” just gives the song another life. Second is the two remixes that ZHU released on the same day of “West Coast” by Lana Del Rey and “Strong” by London Grammar which you can listen to here. The London Grammar remix was my favourite out of the two.

New Navy, (Indie, Pop)

Remember these guys?

Well they’re back with a debut album on the way.

The Preatures, (Rock, Indie)

This is The Preatures latest offering, a more mellow afair but still amazing. They also have a debut album on the way.

Broke For Free, (Instrumental, Rock, Electronic)

Broke For Free released his debut album for free (over here) and it’s pretty sharp, lots of relaxing instrumental work.

Fractures, (Indie, Alternative)

Aussie solo act Fractures released his debut self-titled EP a few days ago and if previously released singles are anything to go by then it should be amazing. “Won’t Win” was the last single released and it’s pretty dam good.

Glass Animals, (Indie, Electronic, Pop)

Glass Animals released their debut (so many debuts) album “Zaba”. It’s a good listen, “Flip” and “Hazey” are  my previously un-released favourites.

Mapei, (Pop, Soul, Electronic)

Mapei’s second song “Change” will appear on her debut album out 23/9.

Nick Hakim, (Chill, Soul, Jazz)

Very relaxing and a great follow up to “Pour Another”.

Tora, (Electronic, Folk, Chillwave)

Too good, featuring two Byron Bay acts on the rise, I can see more collabs from these two in the future.

Phoria, (Electronic, Ambient, Downtempo, Chillwave)

Sticky Fingers, (Rock, Indie, Dub/Pop)

The second single from their upcoming album “Land Of Pleasure” moves away from the reggae pop towards a more rock tinged pop. Doesn’t disappoint.

Snakehips, (Electronic, Pop, Dance)

The British producers call upon the voice of Sinead Harnett on their new single “Days With You”. Perfect Summer song, if only is was actually Summer…..

Basement Jaxx, (Dance, Electronic, House)

Featuring South London school-leaver ETML, “Never Say Never” is the first official single from “Junto” their upcoming album, oh and it’s very good!

Grimes, (Electronic, Dance)

A bit of fun from Grimes featuring Blood Diamonds.

Husky, (Folk, Indie)

Woo! Husky are back. This one isn’t going to light the world on fire but it’ll do for now.

Flume, (Electronic)

Surprise! Or not…..Flume has remixed Chet Faker’s latest single “Gold”. These guys go together like cheese and crackers.
